Home for the Holidays

Monday, October 30th, 2006

When did people start going ape crazy decorating their houses for Halloween? I really appreciate their efforts but even I think its a little strange, or I guess I might just be jealous because Maeve would never let me string up some corpses in our tree and put some funny headstones in the lawn. Whatever your view on the topic is you have to admit that there are some true geniuses in this world with really good decorating taste.

We went out to take some pictures of some overly decorated houses. We only had half an hour but we came up with two beauties. The first one we found was on Laird Avenue just east of 1100 east. Good use of lights, cobwebs, and skulls.

The next one we found was simply amazing. I realized after getting home that I didn’t get close to capturing everything this house had on display. The guy that lived there must have owned a spook alley at one time because I don’t know where else he would have gotten all of this stuff.

If you want to get spooked out I highly recommend checking out this place. Its on Lake Street (one block east of 700 east) just north of Downington.

Halloween is by far the sweetest holiday ever and Halloween parties are the sweetest parties ever and we just got back from a doozey of a Halloween party.

Here are some of the pictues of the finest costumes around:

Zombies
Zombie Ali
Zombie Curt

Curt and Ali - Reanimated and brain hungry.

Shark Attack 2
Shark Attack

Jeff really came through this year with “Shark Bait”.

Tylerbot

Tyler West - Seriously the best robot suit I’ve ever seen. Music and photography technology!

Shark!

Bridgett - The shark was a popular option this year.

Jeremy and Halle

Jeremy and Halle - Uhhh, Jeremy was half humaniod half dead guy/skeleton, which of course requires growing a bread and shaving half of your head.

Ninjas

Maeve and I - We’re in kick-stance but you can’t see our feet so good.

Saturday Morning

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

We got to go to Ali’s cabin in Heber on Friday which is probably one of my favorite things in the whole world. We ate candy, made jokes, told ghost stories, and stayed up late. It’s funny how the things a 10-year-old looks forward to are still some of the best.

On Saturday, Maeve and I were up before everyone else so I went outside to take some pictures. It was a really pretty morning, it had barely snowed the night before which mixed with the fall colors and morning sunlight to create an icy orange glow. I felt like Gordie in Stand By Me when he’s alone in the forest and sees that deer but doesn’t tell anyone about it until years later when he is writing his book. I guess this only took me a couple of days to write about though. Anyway, here are some of the pictures I took.

Break the Silence

Wednesday, October 11th, 2006

So maybe I’m not cut out to have a blog. I’ve found that it is a lot of responsibility. You people have been depending on me to waste a few minutes at work and I have given you with nothing. I want to apologize for that and provide you with an explanation.

After my last post, I think that was maybe in July, I was flooded with compliments for such a great post by all of my readers. I think my one reader even said that she couldn’t believe I wrote it (backhanded compliment?).

Well, after all of that I knew my readers were going to be expecting that amount of perfection from all posts after that, especially since that was really my first post ever. I couldn’t handle that sort of pressure and I folded. Maeve and I would be out doing something fun and she would say, “You should write about this on our blog.” The thought of failure paralyzed me and I just avoided the whole thing.

I’m done being afraid. I need one mediocre post (this one) for everyone to forget the one about the llamas and then I figure I can write freely without always being compared to perfection. So stay tuned readers, I promise you some more posts will be coming. I just needed to lower the bar a bit, which I am confident I have done.

See you soon.
